In the fall of each year, prior to the DocFest concert, a distinguished jazz artist is invited by DocFest to perform in the Denney Theatre at the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) in Houston, TX.    Many times the artist will conduct master classes during the school day for HSPVA jazz students. Past artist include Al Jarreau and Bob James.

This year, DocFest is adding DocFest New York, hosted by The New School’s jazz and contemporary music school. This concert is scheduled for Sunday, December 9th.  Updates and more information will be posted in the near future. The New School and DocFest hope to make this an annual event.

2017 BOB JAMES BENEFIT CONCERT

Due to the flooding after Hurricane Harvey, DocFest combined the Bob James Benefit concert, which was scheduled for September 1st, with the December 29th DocFest ’17 concert making this event an extraordinary mega concert.
