Chris “Daddy” Dave is a rhythmic architect and composer rooted in the gospel and jazz traditions of his native Houston, Texas. Chris has redefined the possibilities of the drum set throughout his illustrious career. A graduate of The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts (HSPVA) in Houston and Howard University, his journey from the church pews to the global stage includes contributions to Grammy-winning projects such as Adele21 and D’Angelo’s Black Messiah.
Beyond his work as a world-class sideman for artists like Kenny Garrett and the Robert Glasper Experiment, Chris continues to push musical boundaries as the leader of Chris Dave and the Drumhedz. The ensemble serves as a laboratory for his signature “time-bending” style, seamlessly blending jazz, hip-hop, and world rhythms. He is currently collaborating with John Mayer on new material while maintaining his visionary work with the Drumhedz.
